Article by Tim Russell, on his upcoming book The Good Steward (releasing April 25)
As a young teenager, I remember my dad working on a book. He explained that the idea of writing a book had been rolling around in his mind for several years. This early work, however, never saw the light of day. The inertia of work and life prevented the book from coming to life.
Since the mid-’80s, Roy has been speaking and preaching in churches about Biblical Stewardship. Eventually, these speaking engagements developed into Life Institute and our three-day Stewardship Seminars conducted across America. As we refined our teaching, it became clear that this content was worthy of a broader audience.
Over the years, we have conducted hundreds of stewardship seminars. Two common themes emerged at nearly every seminar:
1. “I wish I had heard this lesson 20 years ago.”
2. “I wish my kids (or friend, family member) were here for this. It would be so helpful for them!”
Roy and I wrote The Good Steward, in part, because everyone needs to hear a gospel-centered discussion of stewardship sooner rather than later. We are not able to be everywhere or teach in all churches, but we can write down the message of the seminar and provide a way for it to be shared with all those who need its help.
Another reason for The Good Steward is that the seminar can feel rushed at times. In print, we can slow down, expand upon, and develop ideas that only receive cursory treatment in the seminar. This is especially true for the content presented in the Sunday morning sermon at the seminars. For anyone who has attended one of our Stewardship Seminars, this book can greatly enhance their understanding of the foundational elements of Biblical Stewardship.
It is my hope and prayer that God will use this book to develop an army of Christians committed to loving God more than money and using their wealth in ways that honor and glorify Him!
The book is AVAILABLE NOW, and can be ordered on certain outlets like AMAZON.
